Welcome to the KU School of Education web-site. I urge you to explore the various programs, events and activities displayed on these pages. The web pages will help you learn a great deal about our undergraduate and graduate degree programs, various licensure opportunities, as well as introduce you to our world-class faculty. You can also learn about the major Centers associated with the School which are nationally and internationally known for their research and service activities. We have great students and alumni and we work diligently to meet their needs. It is no wonder that our School is ranked 13th among public universities in the most recent graduate school rankings by U.S. News and World Report, with our Special Education Department ranked number one in the country.
The School offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs in professional fields in education, counseling psychology, sports management and health and wellness fields. Our faculty offer programs both on our Lawrence campus and at the Edwards campus located in the Kansas City area. Faculty provide service and support for schools and other agencies and organizations across Kansas and beyond. Students rate our faculty instruction remarkably high; these same faculty expended more than $26 million dollars on external-research related projects last year. Since 1920 our School has graduated more than 24,000 alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders both nationally and internationally in their respective careers. This year is particularly notable as our first distinguished faculty member, the Williamson Family Distinguished Professor in Counseling Psychology, joined the School of Education team.
Since becoming Dean at KU in August, 2005, I have been incredibly impressed with the caring and thoughtful people that call KU home. Everyday I get to experience the excitement of being part of this great academic community. Our university excels in the classroom, on the athletic field, and supports the many communities we serve.
The School of Education at KU is a very special place. Please consider KU for your undergraduate or graduate study in the programs we offer. Joining our 700 undergraduate or 1300 graduate students will expose you to over 90 full-time faculty and 175 staff members dedicated to serving the needs of students and those interested in education and promoting your success. Just one visit to our state-of-the-art Education building, Joseph R. Pearson Hall, or the Robinson facility that houses our Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science, will convince you that KU is the right place to pursue your education dreams.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our School. KU is a great place to learn and study, and I know that if you choose to join us you will feel the same way.
With Warmest Regards,Rick Ginsberg, Ph.D. Dean
