The School of Education serves schools and other partners in 103 of Kansas' 105 counties.
Since 1910, the School has graduated more than 29,000 alumni.
There are over 600 undergraduate students in five programs of study and 1300 graduate students in 16 programs in the School of Education.
Graduates of the five SOE Departments, Curriculum and Teaching, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Psychology and Research in Education and Special Education, hold positions such as teacher, therapist, counselor, trainer, dean, chair, president and many others in a variety of public and private institutions.
Nearly 400 students received $774,000 in scholarships for the 2007-2008 school year.
Alumni of the School of Education include Gale Sayers – Chicago Bears Hall of Famer, Billy Mills – Olympic gold medalist, former Mayor Kay Barnes of Kansas City, Missouri, former Mayor Carol Marinovich of Kansas City, Kansas, Andy Tompkins – former Kansas State Commissioner of Education, and former Governor Jane Hull of Arizona.
The Department of Special Education is ranked #1 among public institution graduate special education programs by U.S. News and World Report. Since the late 1970s, the department also was ranked #1 in every empirical study in the special education literature.
The School of Education's graduate programs were ranked 12th among public education institutions by U.S. News and World Report in its 2008 publication.
The average grade point average of students admitted to the School of Education teacher education program is 3.4; Students usually enter the School in their junior year, the 3.4 grade point average is for non-education courses taken prior to their entry.
The School of Education has the only extended teacher education program in Kansas. After receiving a bachelor of science degree, our students complete 18 weeks of student teaching and internship and 15 hours of graduate course work before being recommended for licensure.
The School of Education has generated nearly 24 million dollars in external funding for 2006-2007.
