Program Goals and Objectives

The specific academic objectives of the program are continuously emphasized to benefit the education, preparation, and well being of the students. Specific objectives of the curriculum include:

1) Preparation of students for the NATABOC Certification Examination.

 

A. Review of Clinical Proficiencies and the Athletic Training Educational Competencies within the curriculum.

2) Preparation for future careers as Certified Athletic Trainers.

 

A. Provide students athletic trainers with diverse work-related experiences.

 

B. Provide students well-rounded experiences in a variety of clinical settings, in order for them to meet the entry-level standards of a Certified Athletic Trainer.

3) Provide students with opportunities to develop their skills in the classroom and in clinical settings.

 

A. Provide structured opportunities in the classroom to incorporate clinical Experience.

 

B. Develop clinical competencies based on classroom knowledge.

 

C. Develop clinical competencies that are prerequisites to classroom instruction.

 

D. Link accountability of clinical competencies to course work in the Athletic Training curriculum.

4) Provide high quality instruction in the classroom and clinical settings.

 

A. Ensure faculty and clinical instructors keep abreast of advances in the field.

 

B. Create a positive classroom experience by using a wide variety of teaching tools and methods.

 

C. Develop and administer student evaluation tools to improve clinical instruction.

 

D. Develop and use evaluation tools of the students’ clinical experience.

5) Assist students in gaining employment or entrance into graduate school.

6) Develop professionals who will value education and recognize the importance of lifelong learning.

 

A. Provide student athletic trainers with the skills necessary to remain current in the Athletic Training profession.

7) Encourage and promote the personal and professional growth and development of each individual student.

 

A. Emphasize the importance of research in our field.

 

B. Provide students an opportunity to communicate with other allied health professionals through the use of practicums, guest lecturers and in-services.

 

C. Provide opportunities for students to present at and attend professional meetings.

8) Provide each student with a thorough knowledge base and quality education program.

 

A. Provide students with an understanding of a wide variety of therapeutic modality and therapeutic exercise equipment.

 

B. Expose students to research within the profession and an understanding of the value research plays in the future growth of the Athletic Training profession.

9) Promote professional and ethical conduct at all times.
 

A. Review of NATA Code of Ethics.

 

B. Adhere to state guidelines.

 

C. Review of student handbook.
