Profile

A former teacher of students with emotional/behavioral disorders, Juliet Hart earned her doctorate degree in Special Education and TESOL at the University of Miami in 2003. Since that time she has been an Assistant Professor of Special Education at the College of William and Mary, and is a visiting assistant professor in Special Education at the University of Kansas this year. Her primary research interests include language, literacy, and multicultural issues in special education, emotional/behavioral disorders in children, and classroom adaptations and strategies for students at-risk and who struggle to learn in inclusive settings. She has been the recipient of two grants awarded by William & Mary and with colleagues Smith, Robinson, and Griswold, has been awarded an OSEP Training Improvement grant for the Kansas High-Incidence Preparation (KIP) project. Hart’s most recent work includes articles on a variety of special education and diversity topics that have recently or will be published in journals including Intervention in School and Clinic, Remedial and Special Education and Teacher's College Record.

      This USDOE, Office of Special Education Programs project titled "Kansas High-Incidence Preparation (KIP)" will fund the Department of Special Education's work to develop, evaluate, and institutionalize a restructured and improved high-incidence personnel preparation undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation program to address the shortage of highly qualified special educators in Kansas, the surrounding region, and the nation.
