Special Education

Special Education Newsletter

The Special Education Connection is published once a year by The University of Kansas Department of Special Education. Each issue contains information of interest to special education professionals, graduate students, and alumni. Features include updates of ongoing special education research associated with the KU Department of Special Education, useful resources and tools, conference calls for papers, job announcements and graduate fellowships within the Department, and other news of interest.

We want Special Education Connection to be a two-way connection between our Department and the special education community. We hope to hear from you about news, topics of concern, resources, and suggestions for future issues.

Having trouble?

We at the Department of Special Education would like to make the Special Education Connection the best it can possibly be. We encourage our readers to provide us with questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions. Please tell us about any viewing difficulties you have had (resolved or unresolved) so that we can help other readers avoid issues you may have encountered. Please email us at kuseconnect@ku.edu.

I'm having trouble viewing some of the files referenced in the newsletter; how can I view them?

Some attachments may require Adobe Reader or Apple's Quicktime. To get the latest version of these programs click on Reader or Quicktime.

I'm not receiving the newsletter in my email inbox; how can I fix this problem?

Certain email services may be flagging the newsletter as SPAM. Usually there is an option to allow certain email addresses to deliver their messages.

Microsoft Outlook, for instance, allows you to choose "Safe Senders." First select the "Tools" menu in the main tool bar, then click on "Options." Then within the "Preferences" sub window click on the "Junk Email" button, which will bring you to a "Junk Email Options" window. Clicking the "Safe Senders" sub window allows you to select trusted email addresses to bypass the filter. Our newsletter is sent out under the kuseconnect@ku.edu address.

If you continue to have problems, please contact your email provider.

I received the newsletter, but I wasn't able to read it or the images were all missing; how do I fix this problem?

Certain email services will prevent images from appearing if they are from a suspected SPAM source. Changing the trustworthiness status of our newsletter email address (kuseconnect@ku.edu) may solve the problem. The steps for Microsoft Outlook are listed above.

If you were unable to read or view the email at all, it may be a communication error between our services and yours. Email services are not as refined as web browsers when it comes to viewing the newsletter. We always keep a hard copy online for anyone to view in their web browser. Every newsletter (past and present) is archived above, and we'll provide a link within our emails that can direct you to the online version.
