Emergency Funding

Emergency Need Funding through the School of Education & Human Sciences is intended to support students who have encountered an unexpected financial expense or obstacle that may hinder their academic or personal success at KU.

One-time award

The unexpected expense or obstacle must be an emergency or unplanned non-discretionary expense. The one-time award of up to $500 is intended to provide support once during a student’s undergraduate or graduate career.


Eligibility requirements

  • On-ground or hybrid degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in School of Education & Human Sciences.
  • Good academic standing.

Note: Conference travel, study abroad expenses, or repayment of student loans will not be considered. In addition, emergency requests are not intended to help cover future/expected tuition and fee expenses for upcoming terms.

To submit a request for consideration, complete the online form. A decision will be shared via email with the student within (2) weeks of submission. Note, funds are taxable income.

The Emergency Aid Network was established in 2018 to provide a central location for information about campus, local, state and federal resources to help those who may be experiencing financial or personal hardships.

KU Women for KU Women Fund

This fund, administered by the Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity, provides one-time assistance for women (cis or trans) who are experiencing financial hardship.

Emergency Aid for Military-Affiliated Students

Emergency aid at the University of Kansas is intended to be a one-time grant to assist students who are experiencing a small, unforeseen expense.
